Adieu Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent, the most famous and known Fashion Designer of the last 50 years, died June 1st 2008. He was 71 years. That is the reason why the „Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe“ in Hamburg is exhibiting 25 pieces of his Prét-à-Porter-Collection from the years 1970 until 2000. Evening gowns, elegant day fashion and a tuxedo for a woman.
Born 1936 in Algier, he took over the administation of art at the traditioanal house of disign „Dior“. He founded 1961 his own label, together with Pierre Bergé and worked up until 2002, the year when he retired form fashion business. For decades he was leading the fashion world, first with his tuxedo for the woman (1966), the „nude-look“ (1968) and the first unisex fragrance (1971). With the opening of a boutique chain for his Prét-à-Porter line „rive gauche“ (1966) he made jeans and the pantsuit socially acceptable. With matchless creativity he designed from 1973-1999 four big collections per year.
A side of blaze of colour and variatiy of form, new styles and mixtures, Saint Laruent stayed always true to his personal symbol of a woman. The fashion world has lost a tremendous and indescribable Couturier.
