Interview with F. C. Gundlach
An exhibition about the work of Prof. Grundlach is taking place from 12th April to 07th September2008 in "Haus der Photographie" in Hamburg. In terms of the show "Global Art Magazine" is invited to an interview by Mr. Prof. Grundlach.
-How do you came to Photography?
I came to Photography by shooting reportages. In this time there was no TV so I made press pictures of movie productions where I took shoots of stars during their shooting programm. By this work I came to the magazine "Film und Frau" the first magazine that after the war emited glamour. I was seeing myself as a "producer of dreams" because I knew that the things I shot were not reachable for the most of the people.
-Which context do you see between fashion-photographs and art?
There are lots of connections between liberal art und fashion. In which I don't see " liberal art " as good item. Either it is art or not. But there is an exchange between art and fashion. During the last 20 years photography is established as a medium of art as well as hammer and chisel or brush. It took a long time till photography has accomplished itself.
-How do you connect art und fashion photography in your work?
I think that photography is a big contemporary witness by reporting about each decade. You can take a picture and it tells much about the time when it was taken. Also when you take the Eiffel Tower and thousend people take pictures of the Eiffel Tower then it looks thousend times different. It depends on the head and on the eye which is behind the camera
